Callaway Jaws MD5 Wedges

Jaws MD5 marks a breakthrough in wedge design and performance for the company.

Wedge wizard Roger Cleveland and his extensive R&D team have created a new Jaws Groove to take spin and control to the next level. The result is a wedge that delivers total performance, with premium shapes, striking finishes, outstanding versatility and exceptional spin.

The company’s proprietary Jaws groove has been dramatically enhanced in Jaws MD5, elevating the groove-edge sharpness to create maximum grip and spin from all types of lies. These wedges also incorporate the company’s proven Groove-In-Groove Technology. The milled Micro-Positive grooves are placed in the flat parts of the face for added surface roughness and grip. Three raised micro-ridges are featured between each groove, adding grip to the ball’s cover to increase spin on a variety of shots.

The wedges are all meticulously crafted, and each Jaws groove is rendered to the tightest tolerances that Callaway has ever achieved, promoting consistent spin-rates from shot to shot.

The line-up is available in five grind options: S-Grind, W-Grind, an updated C-Grind, X-Grind, and a new low-bounce version of the W-Grind, which was created directly from tour player feedback for increased versatility around the green, while still employing the sole’s entire bounce on full shots.

Completing the premium design and components package, these wedges are offered in two beautiful, durable finishes: Platinum Chrome and Tour Grey.

Titleist TruFeel Balls

The Titleist TruFeel may not garner all the headlines that the company’s flagship Pro V1 franchise gets for all its success on the world’s professional tours, but the low-compression, two-piece ball aimed at moderate swing speed golfers shares one important element with the Pro V1 franchise: both balls are developed with extensive input from the players that use the eventual finished product.

Demand and Supply - Titleist TruFeel Balls

The product development team at Titleist in the past decade has been increasingly dedicated not merely to advancing the technological potential of the golf ball among its array of constructions, but also in understanding what golfers and specifically, a particular ball’s target audience, are looking for. While it’s adding its most dramatic colour change in response to consumer interest – a matte red finish that will debut in early 2020 – at the same time, it’s tweaking the performance attributes with the new TruFeel in a category geared to golf balls that feel soft.

Key in that development was adding speed to the core of the TruFeel without sacrificing feel. While still remaining a low-compression core, the core was firmed ever so slightly to make it more responsive at impact for better distance off the tee and on longer shots.

The advantage of the low-compression core is lower spin, which helps both produce more distance and limit some of the waywardness of tee balls with hook and slice spin.

The TruFeel, which has a new core that is also larger than DT TruSoft (better energy transfer), remains the softest-feeling ball in the Titleist lineup, and its thinner cover is designed to help with approach shot spin and short-game control. That new aerodynamics pattern is tailored specifically towards enhancing the long game.

Another area where studying a product’s specific audience yielded a design change for the TruFeel lies in the sidestamp, which often serves as an aiming feature on putts.

supporting a thin PWRShell Face for increased ball speeds. An updated forged face insert creates a larger sweet zone and return area for higher launch and faster ball speeds in a players iron. A tungsten toe weight centres the CG behind the hitting zone to maximise distance and increase precision for attacking pins, even on off-centre hits.

Like a majority of Cobra equipment, the Forged Tec irons will feature the innovative Cobra ConnectTM Powered by Arccos allowing users to track their accuracy and distance using the Arccos Caddie app on a smart device.
