Golf great and CBS commentator Nick Faldo reveals big news

Alex MyersJune 22, 2022
GolfNews

Nick Faldo announced on Tuesday that he’s retiring from “full-time broadcasting” for CBS and Golf Channel. The six-time Major champ had been CBS’ lead analyst since 2006.

Faldo’s last tournament will be the Wyndham Championship in August, the final regular season PGA Tour event. He explained that week will represent a nice “full circle” moment for him since the Greensboro tour stop is where he made his PGA Tour debut back in 1979.

Faldo, who will turn 65 next month, said he was stepping away as his contract is ending. According to Faldo, he informed CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus of his decision in January. Faldo became CBS’ lead golf analyst in October 2006, getting the “highly coveted seat” next to Jim Nantz. Here’s his full statement:

Faldo’s “full-time” wording had people speculating if he will become the latest addition to the LIV Golf series. And he didn’t help that speculation with this retweet.

The clue is in leaving “a full” schedule TV commentary . https://t.co/HYT2hyCVmd

Regardless, Faldo will be spending less time in the TV tower and more time fishing at his Montana ranch. Enjoy, Sir Nick.

“We are thrilled to name Trevor as the lead analyst for golf on CBS,” CBS chairman Sean McManus said. “He brings the credentials and experience as a major champion, along with a unique perspective and knowledge of today’s stars, having recently competed alongside them. Trevor has developed terrific chemistry and relationships with our entire team, and we look forward to him sharing his insights, as he informs and entertains viewers for many years to come.”

Immelman, who joined the CBS Golf team in 2019, is also captaining the International Team at this year’s Presidents Cup.
