Ko fires Sunday best to just fall short at ANA Inspiration

An inspired Lydia Ko has fired a scintillating final round to fall just short of capturing her third Major championship and second ANA Inspiration title today.

Ko has carded a final round of 10-under 62 to finish 16-under par but fall two short of Patty Tavatanakit who fnished at 18-under. Ko carded rounds of 70, 69, and 71 in the first three rounds.

Starting the day eight shots back of Tavatanakit, Ko knew she needed to come out firing to have any chance of lifting the trophy come the end of play today, and she did just that.

Take a bow, Lydia Ko! 👏

She opened with a birdie at the first followed by an eagle at the second to be three-under through her opening two holes. That set the trend for the rest of her round as she looked to chase down the tournament leader Tavatanakit.

Ko proceeded to make birdies at the fourth, sixth, seventh, and ninth holes to make the turn at seven-under and catapult herself into contention.

She began the back nine in similar fashion to the front with back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th holes to cut the deficit to just two strokes. Tavatanakit seemed to have an answer for everything Ko through at her with birdies of her own to keep some distance between herself and Ko.

Ko made another birdie at the 15th and parred her way in to post 16-under, and all Tavatanakit needed to do was avoid disaster and the tournament was hers, which it was.
