More and more on tour we are seeing players show up to tournaments with a ‘team’ of professionals. Often these teams comprise golf coaches, fitness trainers, medical professionals and mental coaches. So if it’s good enough for them, why isn’t it good enough for you?
There is a misconception out there that assembling a team is something that is reserved only for tour players, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Having a team of professionals around you that actually communicate about your progress is without question the most effective way for you to improve your performance.
As a strength and condition-ing coach working with golfers every day, there is nothing more satisfying than working with other like-minded professionals who are experts in their field, to achieve the best possible outcome for the athlete. At Fit Golf, we like to refer to all of our clients as athletes, because we believe – regardless of ability – every client deserves to be treated like a tour professional.
So how do you assemble your ultimate team?
1. Determine which professionals you need to perform at your best:
Scope of practice: technical development, skill development and some physical development.
Medical Professionals (physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, myotherapists)
Scope of practice:injury prevention/rehabilitation, physical preparation and recovery.
Fitness Professionals (strength and conditioning, personal trainers)
Scope of practice: strength, conditioning, power development and injury prevention.
Nutritionists (dieticians and nutritionists)
Scope of practice: nutritional advice and some psychology.
Mental Coach (sports psychologists and NLP coaches)
Scope of practice: mental performance.
2. Choose professionals who have an existing network of experts as part of their team. Ensure that your professionals are willing to communicate with each other about your development.
If improving your game is your ultimate goal, your golf coach should be the leader of your development and all other practitioners should be guided by yours and your coach’s goals.
Trust the process, let your team work for you and enjoy your golf as your game flourishes under the guidance of your expert coaching team.
