Open Championship 2021: Scottie Scheffler’s driver stinger is real and it is spectacular

Christopher PowersJuly 13, 2021
British OpenGolfNewsThe Open ChampionshipVideo
When golf fans hear “stinger” they immediately think Tiger Woods, but, as we’ve written in the past, there are a number of players who hit the stinger equally well, and perhaps even better than Woods. It’s sounds blasphemous, yes, but it is true, as the likes of Gary Woodland and Scott Stallings have proven.

The stinger mafia now has more company in Scottie Scheffler, who appears extremely ready for this week’s Open Championship based on the video you are about to see. The really cool part about Scheffler’s stinger? He hits it with a driver, a shot that should come in handy at Royal St George’s. Feast your eyes on this beauty, which will probably make you bet your entire life savings on the Texan to win in England:

That is just plain stupid, folks. That ball might run farther than the ball David Simms hit down the road in “Tin Cup”.

That shot will play just about anywhere on the planet, but it will really play at St George’s. Looks like it played this past week for Scheffler at the Scottish Open, too, as he finished in a tie for 12th in his first appearance. This week, Scheffler makes his Open debut, but based on this driver stinger he already looks like a seasoned Open veteran.
