The clubs Branden Grace used to win the 2021 Puerto Rico Open

Branden Grace won his second PGA Tour title and first in nearly five years with a remarkable eagle-birdie finish courtesy of a pair of bunker shots the South African will long remember to capture the 2021 Puerto Rico Open.

Trying to chase down Jhonattan Vegas, Grace holed out from the sand for an eagle 2 on the short par-4 17th then got up and down from a fairly lengthy distance for a closing birdie on the par-5 18th to clip Vegas by a shot.

“Every bunker shot I had today I hit a good shot,” Grace, who converted five of six sand-save opportunities for the week, told Golf Channel afterwards. “And considering the circumstances that [the shot on 18] was one of the best bunker shots I’ve hit.”

Grace, who shot a final-round 66, struck those bunker shots with his Callaway Jaws MD5 lob wedge. He also made some clutch putts, including at the last, with his Odyssey 2-Ball Ten, which was the most popular putter model this week in Puerto Rico. He also managed to keep the ball in play Sunday, hitting 13 of 14 fairways in the final round with his Callaway Epic Speed driver, which allowed him to hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation.

Grace is used to producing fireworks on the golf course. After all, the South African holds the record for the lowest score ever in a Major championship, carding a 62 in the third round of the 2017 Open Championship.

But it was nothing compared to the pyrotechnics he produced on the last two holes in Puerto Rico.
